Not all vegetables make good leaders.
"Since yours are 1978 vintage, I suspect 902-8A HF drivers and 416-8C LF drivers. Ferrite."
My 1978 Model 19's have the 416-8B Alnico's as well as the 802-8G Alnico's. I was of the mind that the 902 ferrite's were closer to 1980... ?
I assumed the 416-8C's were also along the same time frame for the Alnico to ferrite conversion... but you know what happens when we assume...
I have the ability to recreate the Model 19 grills. But what is it worth? Do you have the fasteners from the original grills and do the existing cabinets also have the fasteners present?
The fasteners are the hard part. I am not sure if I have enough to make a complete pair of replacement grills.... needing 16 for the grilles or 32 if the cabinets are missing their's too.
The originals were made from low quality particle board. I would make reproductions with birch plywood or similar. The fabric is pretty easy to find. Black for the Walnut cabs and Brown for the Oak cabs.
I have been thinking of making a set of new grilles for my 19's, but it is low on my priority list. I could make 2 sets when I get to it. Just depends on what you are expecting to pay... it is a time consuming ordeal.
Probably true. Not sure how to tell the vintage of mine. Any clues?
At any rate, I have immaculate vintage grills that I'll never use. They were never used.
Ebay tactic.....$800, buy em now.
The only issue I have with the ferrite versions is with the woofer, the 8C was different than the 8B TS parameter wise. But the port didn't change.
Point here, Amylee should have started a new post that said, " I need grills".
Not tacked on to an old post......with old users reading, like me....

Ron,
Mine have a 1978 date stamp and "made in Aniheim" somewhere... not that I can recall where I saw that. I will have to look again.
I went to work for Altec in 1980 and the 902's and 416-8C's were in production at that time.... so I am not exactly sure when the change was made, but I assumed it was after 1978.
I think I could make new grilles for less than the $800.00 price, but not sure how much less... it is a lot of work and I do not have the "fixtures" available that we had in the OKC cabinet shop. I do have a couple of parts of my old grilles for using as templates for the new ones.
The humidity here in Oklahoma made the original particle board parts swell and fall apart fast. They were all but falling apart by 1990.
I have 2 major Altec project planned for this year and the 19 grills will fall along after those get done... I will start a new thread when I am ready to start those projects... both will be done concurrently. Home theatre subs and center channel to go along with the 19's for left and right channel.
GPA subs and my own 414's and an 811 with a 902 for the center channel.
I am looking forward to getting started! Just need to finish up a couple of other projects.

FWIW: don't know the vintage of my Altec Model 19s but they came with mixed alnico and ferrites: 802-8Gs (new style back cover) and 416-8Cs.
I'm going to have to dig out the Citation scheme one of these days. Cathodyne PI? I think Miller Capacitance is why the tetrode came to be eh?
I have an H&K receiver. Two pair of 6V6 or 7408. It has the simulcast feature (listen to the same program material on one am station and one FM station. There was a multiplex unit made for it by I've never been able to find one or even be sure of the right scheme. I'm going to clean it up and disconnect the tuners and run a Sansui tuner with it to drive the Mod 19s. I hope with metal film plate resistors and a variety of other tactics that I can get it quiet enough.
Transformer coupled PP 300Bs!!. Wow, you're weird man (just kidding) tell me a little about that. PM if it seems too off topic. What tube, what iron? I have a Stancor driver tranny in the pile. I forget what it says....but the tag references a specific tube.

I have thought about using some of those Swedish transformers for drive out of an Alembic F2B type pre. One side straight Fender AB763 and the other side HiWatt tone stack. All this into the PA for my church gig. I don't know what's wrong with those guys, they just don't let you turn up, you know?
Way off topic....
As you were.
